9 Steps To Get On The Path To Success

“You can’t change your destination overnight, but you can change your direction overnight.” Jim Rohn

1. Take the 7-day  challenge.
To be positive. If you stumble, just start over and you, too, will experience how “success attracts success” ~ Jim Rohn.

Before you know it, you will have developed the habit of being positive and then you will naturally draw others to you.

Here are some “to do’s” to help you achieve this challenge if you are willing:

2. Unfollow, not unfriend, but unfollow every person that post’s negatively in your Facebook feed.
I do this daily and my Facebook feed is actually very motivating for me! (:
3. Take a 7 day fast from “the blues.”
Uh, I mean News. Their job is to hold your attention to sell ads.

If their top story reads, “The World is the safest it’s ever been and it’s going to be a beautiful day today,” you would think that is wonderful and move on, BUT…

If they say, “URGENT! Somebody was murdered somewhere and it was bad, and we’re going to bring in supposedly experts to comment on this for the next 3 days”

While they will sell a bunch of ads!

The sky isn’t falling. Stop buying what the blues is selling you. Don’t be Chicken Little…

4. Make it a point to look for people who are smiling and standing tall.
If you do, soon you will be sporting a winning smile and improving your posture.

5. Take control of your self-talk.
You control your thoughts. Don’t let your mind go negative.

Ask yourself better and empowering questions like:
“What’s great about this? How can this turn out for the best? Who can benefit from this? What’s the upside to this?”
Smile and be on your way.  😀

6. Write down 20 things you are grateful for.
Every time you feel down, you are being selfish and are forgetting about all of the wonderful blessings you have.
I know, I used to allow myself to fall into this, too.

Before you go to bed every night and again upon waking, write down 20 things you are grateful for.
Force yourself to go all the way to twenty.

When you do, you will feel yourself start to lift out of the funk you were once in!

7. Go for a run or even just a walk in a park, away from the city.
When you do, you will find anxiety start to dissipate.

You will not only start to think more clearly, but you will achieve a higher level of thinking and soon a rush of new and exciting ideas will start to flow in.
Now the challenge is to capture them as fast as they come in.

This is one of the reasons we moved from San Diego. As beautiful as the city and weather is, and it is very beautiful, living downtown, we found we missed having more nature close by, to get away from the big city to reset.

Back in Venice FL, we could easily walk the beach or bike to a park and the creativity would just flow. Thankfully, we have that again here in Venice, FL.
8. Join a positive and encouraging group, like the DYB Community.
Make sure there are no “Crabs in the bucket.”
…or people that try to bring you down because they see you doing better and better.
9. Ask yourself these 3 questions to achieve your goals:
What do you want, what are you willing to pay for it, and do you believe in yourself to achieve them?
Let’s unpack this and drill down.
Decide what it is you do want.
This can be one of the hardest habits to change. We are good at knowing what we don’t want, but it’s tough changing our mindset to think about what we do want.
Do you want…
  • Great health?
  • A great marriage?
  • A great relationship with your children?
  • A profitable and streamlined business?
  • To be able to take your family on 2-week vacations and have peace about it?

What are you willing to pay to get it?

The supposed “Law of Attraction” that claims if you think about it long and hard enough is a bunch of crap. Yes, you need to get clear on what it is that you want, but the other part of this elusive equation is that you have to get off your butt and work your face off for it.

  • Are you willing to jog and have salads for dinner to reap the rewards of feeling better and living longer?
  • Are you willing to schedule weekly date nights to reconnect just 1-1 with your spouse?
  • Are you willing to schedule 1-1 time with your children and do something they enjoy?
  • Are you willing to ask for help and learn new strategies to take your business to the next level, so to reap all the rewards of operating a successful business?
Do you believe in yourself?
We all struggle with this at some level…
We all have a level of stinking thinking; but, the more you practice the following exercises, the less it will be, and the more you will achieve.

“You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.” – Jim Rohn

  • Change your identity.

I did, and I do regularly.

One powerful way to achieve this is by a simple exercise of writing out 20 “I am” statements upon waking every morning. Before you are fully alert. This is the best time to reprogram your subconscious.

Here are 11 great examples to get you started:

  • I, ________, am a person of integrity, with a good attitude and specific goals.
  • I am a loving husband and a great father
  • I am an honest, sincere, and hard-working person.
  • I am a go-getter. I get things done.
  • I go to bed early and wake up early every day.
  • I walk/jog 3 times a week.
  • I work out 3 times a week.
  • I am in the best shape of my life.
  • I am feeling better and better!
  • I am proud to be a noble, successful salesman, as sales is a large responsibility and one of the greatest professions in the world.
  • I am an outstanding man of God, faithful, kind, loving, loyal, and true.
  • Find a mentor to speak truth into your life. I am very grateful to have two, Bob Burg, author of The Go-Giver, and Todd Smith, author of Little Things Matter.

Buy their books and apply them to yourself!

Each time I allow stinking thinking, I call them and they give me true perspective and the encouragement I need to get my mind right.

  • Here is a tip for a successful mentor relationship. When you find one, you must DO what they tell you to do. If you don’t, then don’t bother them or take up any more of their time, but when you do, report back to them how you did, and what your experience was.
  • It will encourage them to continue investing in you and they know that their time is being well spent. Average people do not do what mentors advise. Don’t be average. Be awesome!

About the Author

As a newly single father of two from MI, he struggled to start over as a paint contractor in FL, going door to door. His situation was so bad, even the IRS had mercy on him.

Feeling completely hopeless, he remembered the story of King Solomon praying for wisdom. Could it be so easy?

He felt he had absolutely nothing to lose. So, as a bankrupt, divorced, high school dropout, single father of 2 young kids, now living 1250 miles away from all friends and family, started to pray for wisdom.
And while he continues to wait for the wisdom to arrive, what did come was an insatiable desire to learn and read books…
Thanks to God for giving him the burning passion to read books, and attend seminars, (oh and winning the wife lottery) he not only cracks the success code and overcomes the struggle, but also streamlines his painting business in less than 3 years, published a how to book, then sold the company. Now he leads a business coaching company for painting contractors so he can help other businesses, like yours, to do the same. Hear more... http://www.DYBCoach.com/01 Or JoinDYB.com
