What I mean by that is, we have all seen or we have all been in traffic, behind that truck that says, “Specializing in”, and they will put, “interior, exterior, gutter cleaning, roof cleaning, power washing, kitchen cabinets power restoration, washing carpets, shaving your dog and moving your lawn”

That’s really just a list of things that they do, but niching down is just taking the shortcut to sniper-rifle-look at different business.

And the shortcut is “interior” and “exterior” painters –basically, we do a little bit of everything, but the sniper rifle is, you bring it down.

We are going to take an example of kitchen cabinet painting because that’s a very popular subject and a very popular process right now that a lot of us are having the opportunity to do.

So, let’s look at the kitchen cabinet repainting.

How are we going to promote and make that a niche?

Or maybe we are very, very good at it, we want to let more people know that we are the best in the area doing that.

Look at it this way… All aspects of painting are very easy and very visual to look at, and people are interested in when we share things with them…

Pictures: the device that I am recording on right now and you probably have in your hand or in your pocket, or really close, next to you, is your phone.

Your phone takes wonderful pictures and wonderful videos.

Start taking pictures –before, during and after the process.

For a kitchen cabinet, you can actually take pictures of the kitchen as it stands, maybe with dirty dishes in the sink… that’s a great first picture.

You also want to take some close-ups of some of the different cabinets that you are going to continuously take pictures of.

And then you are going to maybe take pictures of it being disassembled, being labeled, and maybe pictures from the transport, the wrapping, the sanding, the cleaning, the priming, the first coat, the second coat.

Then you are going to take pictures of you repainting the cabinet doors, putting the hardware on it and of course, you are finished.

Once your customer is thrilled with this, you want to get a video testimonial, and if you can’t get a video testimonial, get a written testimonial.

Video: You are going to take little, short videos of all these processes.

Maybe explain what you are doing during those videos, there are enough free programs out there that you can actually mesh all these together and end up with really cool videos.

And of course at the end, get a video testimonial of your homeowner’s house, how thrilled they are with their new kitchen.

So, right there, you have all that. Let’s put that aside for now.

How are you going to promote that?

We are going to promote it in a bunch of different ways.

There is one more item that you should be doing, to become the niche master of kitchen cabinets in your area, and what is that?

It is Blogging

I know a lot of you are saying, “I don’t have time to blog” “it’s on my list” “I have been meaning to blog” You don’t have to do it

yourself, you can get a virtual assistant to do this, or you can hire someone to do your blogs.

Maybe you even have a spouse, a kid, a neighbor, but if not, I can refer you to an awesome virtual assistant who can help you with this.

You want to write out and bulletproof the process first.

And instead of summing this up, all in one large blog, let’s break this down to different blogs, same as we did the pictures.

Here are some blog title samples;
• Top 10 things to consider when having your cabinet repainted
• The process of getting your cabinets ready for painting.
• The painting of your kitchen cabinets.
• The products we use for kitchen cabinets and why?
• Completing your kitchen cabinets with hardware and doorposts.
• Pricing your kitchen cabinet repaint.

You can use the subject matter, however, you want, but just add a kitchen cabinet there, you are going to end up with about half a dozen different subject matter to write these blogs.

Like I said, if you can’t do this yourself, for a very nominal fee, you can have someone write this.

And the thing to note about blogging is SEO, which is Search Engine Optimization.

You can get this so it is a draw, Google looks at this and says, this guy in this area know that… and in the Boston market, kitchen cabinet painting is his.

So, they start pointing people who are searching for this to you.

So, imagine, if someone went out there searching, “how much is it going to cost to paint my kitchen cabinet” your blog shows up, they go in, and maybe click through a link to your next blog. Then you link all these blogs together.

It’s so powerful because they are not only going to see pictures –you are going to insert some videos.

Right there, that person has seen all these evidence that you are the go-to person for kitchen cabinets.

That is how you get your blogs out there, but it doesn’t happen overnight. If you post your blog today, it doesn’t automatically rank tomorrow, it will take a little time.

But when you have multiple blogs, of the same subject matter, it ranks and it gets to be that you are the king in your area.

Also, how do you let your current customer base know?

Of course, we have social media; we have Facebook.

But you are not going to post all those pictures before, after and during –you can actually link your blogs through social media.

So you can say check out our latest blog on kitchen cabinet repainting… Series 105 or whatever you want to do.

Also, very important is emailing the subject matter in the videos, through your customer.

Do it on a weekly basis. I know you are saying all my customers don’t want me to spam them –if they don’t want it, they will let you know.

Look at it this way, this was summed up to me a long time ago, by someone, that “if someone doesn’t want to watch it, they won’t watch it, and they will let you know that they are not interested”.

But, when they think about kitchen cabinet repaints, you will be the first one who comes to their minds.

Anyway, that is one way to becoming the niche in your marketplace.

Another one is, maybe you want a how-to corresponded line, for the DIYs (Do It Yourself) who want to do their cabinets themselves.

You can do a series of 3 or 4 or 5 or 10 videos on YouTube with this and then email these to your customers. Once again, you will be niching and you will be the king of the market.

You can change that subject matter from kitchen cabinets to exterior painting, whatever you like, but if you focus on one part of your process, your subject matter, you can become the king in the niche of your marketplace.

Anyways, I am Ron Ramsden and I hope this helps.
