marketing, painting contractor, business coach

Bill Carlson of Brush & Roll Painting, a million dollar company out of Omaha, was down to just 2 painters and Bill asked me if he should go back into the field.

Hi everybody, I’m Steve Burnett with DYB Coach.

I’m going to share my answer in just a minute, but first…

I can remember many times there were many emergencies where I went back into the field to save the day!

Whether it was to complete a project on time, to appease an unhappy client, or to make that quick run to the paint store.

Here’s the thing. While you feel like Superman and you save the day, you are really only hitting the easy button, and every time you hit the easy button, you are NOT building your company.

To build a million dollar company profitably, you must discipline yourself to focus on tasks that only YOU can do, and delegate the rest.

To help you to do that, you need to know your Hourly Responsibility Value to your company.

For example, If you work on average 60 hour weeks for 50 weeks, taking into account 2 weeks off for vacation, that comes to about 3,000 hours a year.

Now take that number, 3,000 and divide it by your yearly revenue goal.

If your goal is half a million, then take $500,000 / 3,000 hours = $167hr.

To hit a half million your Hourly Responsibility Value is $167 every hour!

If you are shooting to break a million dollars this year, then take 1 million and divide it by 3,000 hours and you’ll see that every hour you work you are responsible for your company to generate $333 an hour, every hour!

If you’re responsible for generating $333 for every hour, should you really be doing the data entry? NO!

Knowing this, should you be making runs to the paint store for your crews? NO!

And the million dollar question, should you actually be out in the field?

NO!

You should be laser focused on Team Development, Sales, Marketing, Networking, and writing your systems.

Those are million dollar tasks.

Knowing your Hourly Responsibility Value will give you a clear perspective on what tasks you should actually be focused on and which ones you must delegate propelling you to 1 Million Dollars, profitably!

Back to Bill Carlson of Brush & Roll Painting.

He followed my advice and did not hit the easy button by going back into the field when we was down to just 2 guys.

Instead, he started Hiring for Character and implemented a training program.

They are back up to 13 guys in the field, and his net profit is up 20% from last year.

Way to lead Bill!

Know your Hourly Responsibility Value to your company, and you too will break a million, profitably.

You’ve got this!

About the Author

As a newly single father of two from MI, he struggled to start over as a paint contractor in FL, going door to door. His situation was so bad, even the IRS had mercy on him.

Feeling completely hopeless, he remembered the story of King Solomon praying for wisdom. Could it be so easy?

He felt he had absolutely nothing to lose. So, as a bankrupt, divorced, high school dropout, single father of 2 young kids, now living 1250 miles away from all friends and family, started to pray for wisdom.
And while he continues to wait for the wisdom to arrive, what did come was an insatiable desire to learn and read books…
Thanks to God for giving him the burning passion to read books, and attend seminars, (oh and winning the wife lottery) he not only cracks the success code and overcomes the struggle, but also streamlines his painting business in less than 3 years, published a how to book, then sold the company. Now he leads a business coaching company for painting contractors so he can help other businesses, like yours, to do the same. Hear more... http://www.DYBCoach.com/01 Or JoinDYB.com
