How to Stand Out From Your Competition & Get Noticed

What do Bat Dad and you have in common?

Hopefully a lot after reading this…I am Ron Ramsden, a DYB coach and a painting contractor in Massachusetts.

What do you have in common with Bat Dad?

Videos… hopefully. If you are not making videos, I want to share some stats with you that are going to make you think and hopefully act on making more videos. Most of us have seen Bat Dad or something of him.

Here’s a couple of stats that you might want to know:

  • 547,000 subscribers have subscribed to watch Bat Dad.
  • Bat Dad has also exceeded 49 million video views.

Can you imagine, all of this reach just from this bat mask on a Dad? Videos, why are we making them? The real question is…

Why aren’t you making them?

I don’t know why you’re not doing them, some of you may be a little shy, maybe a little embarrassed to be out there. Do a Facebook live video, because if people aren’t talking about you, you’re being boring. Don’t be boring. Be different!

A couple of things I have done in the past is that I’ve gone to a local sports game, while I’m there, I take it out. I film a little of the game. I talk, I share it with my audience.

Do we need a little controversy?

I have adopted an island in town and had a little controversy, but a positive controversy. I put it out there and I got viewed 28,000 times, shared all over the place.

I do walk-arounds of my projects if it’s an exterior. Inside, you need to be a little bit careful because it’s personal space.

If we have a cultural event with our crews and we go all bowling or something, we take some pictures, but also take some videos. Let people know you are out and about.

If I am doing an estimate, I’ll take it out and if it is appropriate I’ll do a live video. It’s a great way to reach out to your core audience. I am going to show you some stats on why you should be doing this right now. These stats are from Facebook and I’ve been doing a little research on Facebook.

  • 8 billion average views a day on Facebook for videos worldwide.
  • 100 million hours are watched every single day on Facebook worldwide.

Imagine that!

We’ve all been there… We’ve watched one video of something we wanted to watch and then all of a sudden when that ends, another one gets fed in and then another one gets fed in, and about 8 or 10 of them are fed in before it ends. You can imagine what will be going down that rabbit hole.

  • 85% of the videos that are watched on phones are watched with the sound off.

That’s why I shaved half my beard hoping that you’d think this was odd enough that you’d had to watch. Do something different. Don’t be boring. I actually did this to let my readers know, “do you have one of those half-done projects, we can help.” Think odd, be different and be noticed.

Here are some more stats:

  • 94% increase in video views last year on Facebook.
  • Since Facebook has started their videos, every year they have had an average of at least 75% increase.
  • Facebook videos across your newsfeed have increased 360%.

What does that mean?

Earlier you used to watch Jonny’s birthday party. You’d see a picture of that. You’d see that someone bought a new car. Someone took some pretty outside landscape pictures and then, you’d see a video. After that, you’d see someone went out to eat and had chicken pot pie. Someone came home and found something different in their yard or something. At first, it was a bunch of pictures, now we are seeing way more videos.

We are seeing 360% increase in video views. Facebook live, these videos are watched 3 times more than any other kind of video. People like to see what a lot of people are doing. Let me dig into that a little deeper.

How many people do you know that go home, have dinner and then relax on their couch because they had a hard day and then watch 4 or 5 hours’ worth of video?

Right?

People like to watch other people do things. Reality shows; people live through other people’s reality shows. There are home renovations, they watch other people do the work. People love to watch other people do things. You could be the one they’re watching!

You just need your phone or your camera and go out there and make some fun videos.

Be different!

If you have a favorite place you go to have dinner at night, go there. Do a quick video, walking in saying, “guess where I am again.” People love to watch those things. Ask them to like it. Ask them to share a comment. Ask them a question while you are on the video so they can get the ball rolling and they can share it with their friends. This is a free way to stay top of mind with all your customers and future customers.

It’s free.

So remember, don’t be boring!
