When considering an estimating software, there are many pieces of the puzzle to keep in mind. Here are the top 3 that I love about Estimate Rocket (ER- as we refer to it).


1. I love the automated emails. It is THE reason I started using ER.

All emails can be set to include information in the form of attachments.  These attachments can include sales info, procedures, insurance certificates, references, and a reminder when it is time to schedule a free touch up.

I have several go out periodically throughout the  year to a customer to keep top of mind.  This is not to replace Send Out Cards, but in addition to it.

I also set emails to be sent to me and/or the salesperson when it’s time to connect by phone or in person with the client.

An email is sent to remind the front office of every step of the sales process – as in, when jobs are completed, job costing needs to be done and when to enter info into BaseCamp. It also sends reminders to send all information to the accountant.

The list is endless.


2. I love the reports.  Your numbers are a good indication of how your company is doing.

ER has several important reports.

It can tell me:

  • where my leads are coming from,
  • my close ratio,
  • my average ticket,
  • my average sale,
  • outstanding invoices,
  • open estimates,
  • closed estimates and
  • sales tax reports.

My accountant also has access, so he can pull any report he may need or he can find which deposit should go to which client.

3. I love the ease of writing an estimating.  For me, each line item is just a small portion of the job and easily customizable.

It is also very easy to teach someone that’s never painted how to estimate and to be fairly accurate.  Just teach how to measure a room and count each item to transfer into the estimating portion of the estimate.

ER is very easy to add pictures and we know a picture is worth 1000 words.

The estimate is more precise with pictures and will help you, the client, and your team to solve or avoid discrepancies that may have otherwise happened.

I use Skitch with the photos to point out which trim is getting replaced, which color goes where or what is or is not getting painted. Everyone is in the “know” and when the team knows precisely what to do, work gets done faster.
