FREE Tool For Painting Contractors: How To Utilize Google Maps For Your Business

Something for FREE… who doesn’t like free?

When someone says it’s free, it catches your attention and I’m hoping this catches your attention…

I’m Ron Ramsden, and I am a DYB coach, also a painting contractor here in Massachusetts.

As we know, with the Internet world, we have Facebook, Google, and many other platforms, but those are the two big ones.

When Google has something, you need to take advantage of it!

You should already know of Google Reviews if you saw my video about “Google My Business”, but if not watch it now!

We all know how important Google Reviews are, you have to claim your spot out there in the Google world, if someone’s going to be searching, they need to know you exist.

Another free tool out there is Google Maps.

(If you enjoy finding FREE tools that will GROW your painting business, click here to see all of our podcasts which are LOADED with free tools)

You’ve most likely heard of this, or maybe you use it on a daily basis.

Imagine someone (who knows nothing about your business) is on your website, Facebook Page, etc… and stumbles upon a map that is marked with every single place you’ve painted.

If a complete stranger views all of the places you’ve painted near them, this is going to establish trust right off the bat! (:

Use this, create a map for yourself and pinpoint every single location you’ve painted!

Imagine one of your customers, coming across your website, maybe on your homepage, seeing beautiful pictures of places you’ve painted, homes you’ve painted, exteriors you’ve painted, interiors, beautiful dining rooms.

Maybe over the last 10 years you’ve worked in a thousand different places…

Imagine having a thousand of these little pinpoints all over the place!

Maybe you are just starting out and you’ve worked a lot in one little community, you can put those in there.

Well, talk about a feeling of someone who doesn’t know you, they might be watching you on Facebook, maybe they are reading your Google reviews and then they see this map of all the homes that you’ve worked for in this area!

As for my business, we not only work in homes but also in condominium associations, we might have 30 little pinpoints inside that area and it looks just like a massive red area on the map.

You can use this map in a newsletter that you are sending out saying ‘we’ve worked in your neighborhood’.

Maybe use it as your Facebook cover photo for a little while.

Maybe it’s just a send out to your homeowners to let them know that you’re working in their neighborhood and all you do is include the map.

What an easy, free way to improve on your painting business, and I just want to show you how to do this.

  1. Sign into Google. Most of us are probably already signed into Google and have an account.
  2. Go to google.com/maps. As soon as you do that, you are going to come to a map.
  3. In the top left-hand corner, hit those three little bars and it is going to have a drop-down menu.
  4. Click on “your places”.
  5. Click “create map”.
  6. Label this map and save it.

Maybe you call it “ABC painting,” whatever the name of your painting business is.

You can also label it “Places painted in 2018”, and put a date on it so that when you’re looking back you’ll see that the last time you updated this was April of 2018.

If you work in different areas and you want to use different maps for different areas, you can create as many maps as you want, they are absolutely free.

There are other ways to modify these maps to really make them your own.

This is a great thing to do over a coffee a cup of coffee if you have some extra time, or you can actually key in an address and it will bring up the address right there.

You can do this yourself, maybe this is something you can delegate to someone else to do. Maybe you have a college student, maybe you have a high school student who’s looking for a couple dollars.

You can give them a list and have them put all of the addresses in for you.

This is a great tool to utilize to show your customers places you have painted or are painting.

And the best part… it’s free!

It’s budget friendly and a plus for your painting business.

If I can help you at all, please send me a message at ron@dybcoach.com.

You can also find me on Facebook, as many of you have, send me a message, and I’d love to chat, either through Facebook or even on the phone.

If I can help, I’m here for you!

I am Ron Ramsden, helping painters work on their business, not in the business.

Have a great day!

About the Author

As many of you know, my journey has been one of grit, grace, and transformation. At 19, I was a high school dropout, single father, and struggling paint contractor in Michigan. I later moved to Florida, where I faced both personal and professional hardships. With nothing left to lose, I turned to prayer—and was blessed with a relentless hunger to learn. I devoured books, attended seminars, and discovered better ways to streamline and grow my business—even through the Great Recession (and yes, I did hit the wife lottery along the way!). In 2014, I published How To Double Your Business and later sold the painting business, launching a new chapter: coaching others to grow their businesses. For the past 10 years, I’ve dedicated myself to helping business owners scale through the DYB System, while also drawing from frameworks like EOS, Scaling Up, and The Four Disciplines of Execution. Yet something was still missing—something more adaptive, integrated, and complete. Then I found Pinnacle. After months of research and interviews with other Guides, I joined Pinnacle. Their tools and strategies have exceeded every expectation. Now, as a Pinnacle Business Guide, I help leadership teams implement a custom-tailored operating system that draws from the best in the industry—but flexes with your unique business. It’s a dynamic, proven approach to achieve clarity, momentum, and lasting growth. I’m no longer taking on any more 1:1 coaching clients… Instead, I now specialize in working with visionary business owners who are ready to get their leadership teams aligned—around a clear vision, a focused strategy, and an actionable execution plan. With the tools and process I now have as a Pinnacle Business Guide, I help turn alignment into momentum, and momentum into results. If your business is growing—but your leadership team isn’t fully rowing in the same direction—let’s talk.
