Prior to finding Steve Burnett, and the DYB System I was doing ok.

Business was growing from year to year. Spring through fall I was typically working 7 days a week in the field.

Trying to find time to paint, estimate, answer and return phone calls, bookkeeping, payroll and all the other necessary functions we need to perform as a small business owner was all too consuming.

I did not have the systems and processes in place. Trying to be every place at once sound familiar to you?

I was too busy working in the business instead of on it.

In reality I was just “self-enslaved” and not running a business. Every year winter would come and work would slow down. “How can I keep employees if I don’t have enough work during the winter?”…I would ask myself.

The stress & frustration of not having time for family, a personal life & the opportunity to work on my business continued to mount.

Our second child was born in February of 2015.

Something had to change as I wanted to be around more and present in my children’s lives.  

I came across Steve’s book “How to Double Your Business Without Making a Sale” and was hooked. Purchased the 30 Hour Work Week and joined one of the DYB Mastermind Groups. Soon after joining the DYB Mastermind group, I signed up for 1-1 coaching with Steve.

Being a “C” in the DISC Profile, I am great at over analyzing things, and can be hesitant to implement things.

Over the last year and a half I have stepped out of my comfort zone and implemented a majority of the DYB System (Done is better than perfect).  

As a result my company has experienced record growth, but more importantly I have more of my time back.

This spring & summer I have spent more time away from my business than ever before. Camping trips, visiting family, traveling are a few of the things we have done. During this period I also took a time intensive 13 week small business program. One of the requirements of the program was for me to be in Boston on campus for two one week classes.

These experiences would have never have happened before I made DYB changes to my business.

Heading into fall we are scheduled out further than ever before. The thought of keeping everyone working throughout the winter does not stress me as much as it has in the past (last winter we kept everyone busy).

Today I swing a brush when needed and am not completely out of the field.  It is safe to say I am “Still Under Construction” with more work to do.  

Now, I have a plan and it is up to me to execute.  The confidence and enlightenment of what a real painting business, not a job or “self-enslavement”, can be is now more of a reality than a dream.

My greatest results & performance whether it has been in business, health or recreation (skiing & kayaking) have come by surrounding myself with people who are performing at a higher level than me.

The accountability, encouragement and motivation from Steve and the DYB Community has helped me beyond words.

As a newly single father of two from MI, he struggled to start over as a paint contractor in FL, going door to door. His situation was so bad, even the IRS had mercy on him.

 Feeling completely hopeless, he remembered the story of King Solomon praying for wisdom. Could it be so easy?
