I had just arrived at the site of a prospective paint job and was talking to them regarding their project when…
You may have the job. Steve, we looked you up online and looked through your website. When we came to your video testimonials page, we decided not to call anyone else.
ME: “Wow, thank you, Mr. Jones. Which video, in particular, did you like?”
Mr. and Mrs. Jones look sheepishly at each other, “Well, there were so many, we didn’t even watch one.”
This was the first time I heard this from an internet lead after implementing video testimonials, and it was the start of many.
How I Discovered The Power of Video Testimonials
I moved to Flordia from Michigan (it was initially a 3-week volunteering trip but I decided to stay, that’s a story for another day). Flordia was just hit by Hurricane Charlies and had ravaged a lot of homes leaving them desperate for repair. The number of homes in need drastically overwhelmed the trades available in the city.
Because of this, they were a lot of shady trades who would ask for 50% deposits and then disappear leaving these homeowners with an unrepaired home and less money in their account and nothing to show for it.
It was a horrible thing to do at a horrible time.
Once I had committed to staying I knew needed to collect as much social proof as possible because of the shady contractors who had burned everyone.
I started my website and created a blog where I would write frequently (paired with some basic SEO) and it eventually it helped me land my first few clients.
At this point, I knew I need their testimonials so I would ask everybody that I painted for, for a written testimonial.
My First Small Victory with Testimonials
I then took all these testimonials and created a page for them on our site labeled, “Testimonials Page” and once we started uploading all of our written testimonials we saw a mall increase for calls to estimate, but not nearly as much as we wanted.
That’s when I started thinking to myself how can I convert more of the traffic to my site without paying for ads?

RECAP of Key Takeaways from the video
- Make Sure your Phone is in Airplane Mode

- Did we do everything we said we would do?
- On a scale of 1-10, how likely would you be to refer us to your friends and family?
- Make sure it’s saved
If a picture is worth a thousand words, what is a video worth to me? Exactly 84.5%
An 84.5% close ratio, that’s what video testimonials help to achieve.
They provide some powerful social proof because you can see, hear, and experience them. The issue with plain text testimonials (especially ones without customer pictures) is that anyone can write them, anyone can fake them.
By seeing, hearing, and experiencing a testimony, you know it’s legit.
Yes, you will find yourself arriving at estimates from leads through your website, closing the job on the spot, with the customer not even calling on another painting contractor for an estimate.
How do I know?
Because I asked every one of our clients after I was awarded the job, why they chose us. Do you know what the majority of their answers were?
The social proof that we had, the same social proof I’m going to teach you how to create with Video Testimonials
How to ask why your customers buy from you.
We think we know why they buy, but we have no idea.
After every awarded job, I would ask just like this, “Thank you for the job, Mr. Jones. You could have gone with another company, why did you choose us?”
And many that came through our unique website funnel would say, “Steve, after we saw all of your video testimonials on your website, we didn’t even call another company.”
Awesome, right?!
While you’re thinking about videos, here’s how to get painting leads from videos.
